Adoption Process:
You must be 21 years or older to adopt. Many of our animals have been abandoned, neglected or abused. It is especially important in these instances for us to do everything in our power to avoid high-risk adoptions and ensure that the animals are not subjected to the stress of too many placements. We strive to be a people friendly organization. Please understand that our comittment is to the rescue and protection of animals. We at White River Animal Rescue believe that the adoption of a dog or puppy is a COMMITTMENT and, once adopted, is a member of the family. Before you adopt be sure to ask yourself the following questions: If the pet that I adopt is not spayed/neutered can I afford it ? This dog may live to be 15-20 years old. Can I make this possible lifetime commitment? If my pet gets sick or injured can I afford the medical treatment? (In some cases this could be for the duration of my pet's life.) What type of dog would be suitable for me and/or my family? Am I home enough to give this pet the proper attention and training that it needs? What will I do with the dog if we go away on vacation? Can I afford the adoption fee? Can I afford the cost of monthly flea and heartworm preventative? In order to continue to rescue and re-home all the dogs and puppies that I do, our adoption fee is $350. The combination of shelter pull fees, vaccinations/vetting, transport fees and sick dog/puppy fees averages out to be much more then $350 per dog or puppy. If you do not wish to pay the adoption fee. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY ..... Exceptions can be made under some circumstances. We are a non-profit organization dependent upon these fees and any donations in order to continue our rescue efforts. The adoption fee includes transportation and veterinarian fees. Once the application has been filled out and sent back to White River Animal Rescue, your family will need to speak directly with White River Animal Rescue for a brief phone interview. During that phone interview, we will set up a home visit. After the home visit, you and your family will be able to visit the dog. Adult dogs will arrive at their forever home spayed or neutered, up-to-date on rabies, parvo, and distemper and have been de-wormed. Puppies are not neutered or spayed before the age of four months. White River Animal Rescue believes that the optimal time for this procedure is after 5 months and before 7 months. This application is a signed agreement that you will have this procedure completed within this time frame. White River Animal Rescue will contact the vet to verify. White River Animal Rescue reserves the right to take the dog if you, as the owner, are unable to fulfill the requirement.
