In Kent County, on December 10th 2008, a BOX OF 38 GUINEAS were left to die outside a dumpster in the freezing cold. There were little ones that were so badly beat up by other bigger ones they had to be put down immediately but with them was 'lethals', (see here for info on lethals, http://www.guinealynx.info/eyes.html)along with pregnant Mommas and babys-all ages of guinea pigs were within the box. These special little beloved and humble pets were left in the cold to die...and sadly KentCo.Animal Control is only equipped to handle so many...Over 20 were euthanized right away....they found homes for a few that day...all the pregnant Mommas came here to CritterCafe's warmth, safety and LOVE of this wonderful species(THANKS TO NATHILIE !!!) 'Well checks' have been done by our vets now and several of the girls have given birth to many many guinea pig babys-PRECIOUS LITTLE SWEETIES!! If you are considering a guinea pig for a pet please contact me. I am looking for exceptional loving homes that will take the very best care of their adopted pet-fresh greens per day-good quality pellets and unlimited timothy hay and orchard grasses are a preferable diet for piggys. Guineas need at least 10mg.s of VitC perday from fresh fruits and veges as their bodys' do not manufacture itso it mucst be provided for optimal health. Carefresh bedding is a wonderful bedding, NEVER USE CEDAR OR PINE because the aromatic oils within these woods will kill your small pet as well as a guinea pig.We recommend CC cages, please see here for info and sizes: http://www.guineapigcages.com/
