PLEASE ADOPT A SHELTER DOG/PUPPY THIS MONTH. This is the beginning of puppy season and already the shelters are overwhelmed with the volume of dogs, puppies, cats and kittens being surrendured. Sadly, so many people do not spay/neuter their pets and then dump the resulting litters at the municipal shelters. These are kill shelters. No one wants to euthanize puppies but there just is no alternative when the shelter runs out of room. Many rescue groups step in and take the animals that have run out of time, but we cannot take them all. It is up to YOU to adopt and make sure that all of your animals are spayed and neutered, and please pass the word along! If you are looking to adopt a new pet, many puppies and kittens are available at the New Hanover County Animal Control. New adults and new litters come in each day so check back frequently. The facility is open M-Sat and Animal adoption hours are from 12-4:30pm Mon-Fri and Sat from 10-1:45.
