Hi, my name is Gus. At least that is what I have been named since being found recently. I am a male Shih-tzu, about nine-years-old and weighing just 12 pounds. I am a very sweet boy and am very affectionate and gentle. I am what everyone would hope an older dog would be like in terms of temperament and behavior - relaxed, well-behaved, and easy to have around. I was rescued by a veterinarian which is great because she has done a lot to help me feel better. One thing she found is that I have a bit of an enlarged heart, and this was making me cough. She put me on some very inexpensive medications (Lasix and Enalapril) which have helped me to live normally. Unfortunately she says the enlarged heart may be a sign of congestive heart failure and may mean that I have as little as another year and a half to live. To some people that sounds bad, but to me it sounds even worse that I may not get the chance to live in a forever home for the rest of my life. If that were the case, then my life has already ended. The way I see it, I still have plenty of living and loving to do, and I need to find the right home where I can love and be loved, receive my daily medications, and enjoy life. Surely the right home is out there for me - a home that will understand that all life is temporary, but worth living. I sure feel my life is worth living, but only if I can be in a forever home and have a family of my own. If you can’t adopt me, then perhaps you know someone who would like to? I am hoping so.
