For the first couple years of my life, I lived in a very small house with a very small yard and I didn't get out for walks or things like that. My owner was a young man who lived with his elderly relative. Neither of them could walk me as he was ill and she just couldn't handle my energy.
I didn't have any manners and the kind old woman couldn't really control me. Her daughter contacted BSRR and they recommended that I have some training from a trainer in Helena. So, I went to doggy boot camp for a month where I learned how to behave in the house, not to jump on people, sit, heel, down, stay, come, and how to wait at the door until told to go out or in. I hurt my knee just before going to training and had to be medicated and confined with limited exercise while at training.
Then I went back home where the fence around the small back yard was secured so I could not escape and local family members were recruited to take me on daily walks. My knee, however, got worse and worse and soon the walks stopped as they were afraid it hurt me more to walk. They checked into having surgery for me, but the cost was extremely expensive and the elderly woman simply couldn't afford it, so they decided the best thing for me was for BSRR to take me and get my knee fixed up and then find me a new home with a family that has the time and energy for a girl like me.
