Jackson is a young adult. He weighs 111 pounds and needs more weight on him. The last pic really shows how slim he is. He is a chewer but knows what is allowed to chew on. He goes through rubber toys faster than most dogs. He is very high energy. He needs lots of exercise.
He has a dominant personality and can be a bit stubborn to you at first. That is a result of his high intelligence. He is only testing his limits. As with every dog, you have to keep him busy and give his mind something to do.
Jackson is reserved with strangers. He will scare a stranger with snarling and growling. He will NOT take a treat from a stranger. He may not go potty for a couple days until he is comfortable with the person taking him. Once he trusts you are his friend for life. But you have to earn his trust.
He has the 'Velcro' personality. He is not one to be left alone for long. He misses his people and only feels complete with them. This is not a character flaw. This is typical of the Cattle Dog personality. This can be dealt with by crating him while you are gone or giving him a friend. And you must give him something to entertain him (a very strong chewy toy) But please don't leave him for long. He doesn't like to be be without his people. UPDATE: He no longer is as clingy. And he can be trusted in the house by himself.
He has an awesome sense of smell. If you take a toy away from him and hide it, he will always find it. And you may not even hear or see him getting it back! He smells water or is very experienced in the places it is found. He was found once in the bathtub upside down with his mouth open under the faucet. He is just a clown. He is so funny. He has been going through water like crazy. But he was very emaciated and dehydrated when he came. So he will drink all his water, drink the toilet bone dry and look for the next source. This behavior may stop when he learns it is always available. UPDATE: This is not an issue any more.
He LOVES playing with empty soda bottles but always asks permission first. He has a toy with him at all times and he gives kisses with toys in his mouth! He can catch things in the air large or tiny from any angle.
He seems to be very athletic. He can also smoothly get into places that are blocked off and you will never even hear him. He will sit and look at a boundary and study it (not even for very long) and get up and walk right through a weak spot with no effort. He managed to move chairs in the kitchen to get with his people when the rest of the kitchen was blocked off. He would probably not try to escape a fence because of his need to stay close.
He used to get in trash, but not so much now that he knows he will always have food. If you catch him doing something you don't want him to, he quickly submits. He would cut his leg off and give it to you if you asked for it. He is that committed to you. He is such an awesome dog.
Jackson would be a great dog for obedience trials, sports, agility, Frisbee, fly ball... Just be careful because of his size. His athletics have to be kept to a minimum to protect his hips. But he needs to be able to be athletic. He just needs a balance. He will probably not need long training sessions anyway. He is a natural!
Jackson's adoption fee is $800. (Yes, that is typical of most Mastiff specific rescues and it prevents people from reselling them to fighters and auctions.) He is at the facility in TX. You must be able to pick up personally to adopt him.
