Description:
His name is Vinnie - and we put Shih Tzu, until we get results of the DNA test. Well, the results are in. Vinnie has no primary breed - he is a 3 way split with Maltese, Shih Tzu and Basset Hound.
He was left in the drop off box at the Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha. We are guessing he is somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 years old. He is very shy and timid around people. He has adjusted very well to me, so am sure he would adjust to someone else. Loud noises frighten him - no shouting please. He has been neutered, is all up to date on his vaccinations, his heart worm check was negative and he is on preventative. His teeth have been cleaned and we wormed him. Medically he is fit as a fiddle.
We are working on our house training skills and he is coming along nicely - he rarely makes a mistake, and the marking has virtually stopped. He loves the other dogs - will run, chase and wrestle until everyone is worn out. He really would like to entice a cat to play, but to date they do not accomodate him. To date he has displayed NO aggressive tendancies with any of the other pets.
Vinnie will need a special home with only one person, or at most two. NO children at all - regardless of age. He has much to learn about being part of a household - he most likely was a breeding dog in his early years. He will warm up to you, though. He is very loving and often begs to be picked up and held. Every day is progress. He knows when it's bed time, and loves to sleep with his person. He seems to exhibit more caution of women than men - which is a little unusual. A home with another dog-friendly dog would definately be a plus.
