Mittens is the perfect angel dog. She is so calm and quiet you barely know she is there. She would be the perfect pet for any family lucky enough to adopt her. Her current fosters wish they could keep her, but then they wouldn’t be able to take any more foster dogs. So though it will be difficult to part with her, they are confident that they can find her a home that loves her as much as they do.While she did embark on one excellent adventure from her first foster home to explore life on the run in Northern Virginia, she is actually quite the home-body and is usually rather reluctant to go outside. Lesson learned is our guess — life is better curled up on a blanket inside then under a bush outside. She has never once had an accident in the house, loves her crate, and has never chewed anything she wasn’t supposed to. At some point during her excellent adventure, she injured her left back leg. She had hip surgery to repair the damage a few weeks ago and is recovering well. She now puts weight on all four legs and her fosters are slowly increasing the distance of her walks. She is a little thin (also from her adventure) but eats like your typical lab and before too long, her fosters will have to stop spoiling her with so many treats! Mittens is a little shy and is wary of sudden movements, yet she also seems to have a genuine curiosity about people and wants to be part of any activity. She will hide under a table initially, but then come out to greet visitors and assess the situation and will sometimes go back and forth from table to people a few times until she establishes a comfort level. She is also camera shy, and every time anyone tries to get a good picture of her she turns away, so you will just have to meet her in person to see what a great dog she is!
