Description:
Friday is a wonderful dog who has been through a lot in the past few months. He is originally from Ohio where he was hit by a car. The driver didn't stop to check on him. Luckily, another driver did see Friday on the side of the road and brought him to a local rescue. While at the rescue, it was determined that Friday's left hind leg needed to be amputated. After having surgery and spending some time recuperating at a foster home in Ohio, he was brought to Delaware.Friday has been at my house for 1 week now & he is an all around great dog. He is submissive towards my 2 dogs and 2 cats. In addition, he listens well to commands & is a people pleaser. He is very food motivated & will sit nicely for a treat. Furthermore, he is housebroken & doesn't need to be crated while I'm out of the house. The first few days he was at the house he did pull some underwear out of the laundry & chewed on it but otherwise he has not been destructive. I started filling marrow bones with wet dog food & then freezing them. He now gets one when I leave the house & this has stopped any chewing. Friday has NEVER chewed on shoes, furniture, wood or carpert. Friday gets around just fine on 3 legs. Sometimes he can be a little clumsy when walking on the tile floors in the kitchen but overall he is a very agile dog. We've been to the dog park on several occasions & numerous people commented that, until he stood still, they didn't even notice he was missing a leg. He gets around so well people were surprised to see he only has 3 legs. Friday does appear to enjoy the dog park. He jumps right in & plays with the other dogs & has never shown any aggression. Sometimes, he can be cautious around male humans - but never aggressive. It doesn't take long for him to warm up to people however. In addition, he is a good watch dog. If he is in the yard or house, he will park if he hears/sees something suspicious. But he relaxes once he knows everything is o.k. & doesn't bark uncontrollably. Friday is still young so he will need to be with a person/family that is willing to take him out and let him get the exercise he needs. Also, I would recommend that Friday go to obedience training. Again, he is a very well behaved dog but b/c he is young I think it will be good for him to have some formal training - especially leash training. Lastly, there was a 4 yr old boy in the original foster home in Ohio. According to his Ohio foster mom, Friday adored her son & loved following him around the house & playing him him. So, if his new family has some children for him to play with that may be perfect. Friday bonds easily to his humans and loves attention. Friday really is a wonderful dog who has a great spirit and will be a wonderful addition to the right family. Lastly, I want to thank all the people who helped with Friday's rehab & eventual transportation to Delaware. He is a great dog & was helped by a lot of good people.
