Scout is a 3-4 year old Jack Russell Terrier. Scout is moderately food aggressive. Scout gets along with other dogs, but, like a lot of terriers, does not always like some big dogs. Most smaller dogs he meets he has been fine with. Jack Russell's typically don't like cats so a cat-free home only for Scout. It doesn't appear that he is toy aggressive as our Director's children (3 and 6 years) can play with him in the field and take the toy from him. Scout is not happy to have his nails trimmed (so probably a trip to the Vet would be a good idea) and views the vacuum as his enemy - LOL (who doesn't) :)
OK, now that we've gotten the bad stuff out of the way, (and it's not really that bad, as long as you are aware of it and act accordingly), Scout is very sweet and will give you nice kisses and is otherwise a typical Jack - full of energy and ready to play at a moment's notice. This is no couch potato's dog - he wants an active family to exercise and play with him and give him lots of love and attention.
Scout says 'doesn't anybody wanna play with me?'
08/17/07 UPDATE ON SCOUT Scout's food aggression is now much better. He will allow you to take a toy and rawhide treat from him. He is still grumpy while eating, but not possessive as he was when he was first surrendered.
10/07 - Surprisingly Scout is still with us. This little guy, while he has some 'issues', is sweet as pie otherwise and bored at the rescue and still looking for someone who wants to come and play.
When adopting a dog particular attention should be paid to the type of dog with respect to the size of your yard, the amount of exercise the dog will receive and the amount of time required for grooming.
