Riley is a 2 year old White Husky. He was found running stray on Thanksgiving Day, which was especially dangerous for him--once captured it was discovered he was blind. He luckily did not get hit by a car during his time out on the town. The kind woman who found Riley took him home and wanted to keep him, but unfortunately, her landlord found out that she had three dogs when she was only allowed to have two.
Riley lived with 2 other dogs, a 2 year old boy, and two birds since Thanksgiving. He loved his family and they hated to part with him. He is housebroken, GREAT with kids although because of his disability, little ones may be too much for him. If he can't see them coming at him, he is at a disadvantage. Also, no cats for this fella either. He is currently settling into his new foster home and we will post more about him soon.
Riley had his appointment with Dr Bowersox at the Veterinary Specialty Center. He has been diagnosed with Uveodermatologic Syndrome. This is an immune-mediated disease where the body inappropriately attacks its own pigment producing cells. He does currently have some inflammation in his eyes, which is being treated with antibiotic drops. He has very limited vision in his right eye, and none in his left. Dr Bowersox believes that Riley can live a long happy life with this condition. He would require visiting an veterinary Ophthalmologist once or twice a year to keep an eye on his eyes!!!
