Can't adopt but want to help? Please email the contact above to find out about sponsorship, fostering, and other ways you can help this animal! Please note that financial sponsorship will be applied to the specific animal you indicate unless it is not needed, at which time we will let you designate it for another HT animal of your choice.
You can save animals by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters, so that they have more time to find a permanent family. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please click here.
Hi, my name is Anthracite. I'm a 2 year old black hound mix who is looking for a home and family of my own. I would love to find a family that will give me the love and confidence to learn what it is to be a boy. I've been stuck in an outdoor run at a rural shelter for several years and had NO HUMAN LOVE. Can you imagine longing for the hugs from a human family but not getting any? Well, that's exactly what is happening to me. I want my own family that will take me for long walks, play ball, take me to dog parks, and maybe even give me a biscuit or two but none of my dreams are coming true. Are my dreams so out of reach for little ol' me? I sit here day in and day out, wishing upon a star and getting nothing. Please make today the day that the right person sees my picture and says, 'Anthracite, is going to be my special friend! Let's bring him home today!' Please apply for me. I'm a little shy because I haven't had much confidence building in my life but I know with the right family, I'll gain some confidence. thanks, AnthracitePlease consider adopting Anthracite. He's stuck in a rural shelter in an outdoor run where it will soon be in freezing temperatures without a warm bed of his own. He hasn't had a chance to live in a house in years or maybe forever so he'll need some help with housetraining but he should learn quickly. This animal is in an overcrowded rural shelter that Homeward Trails tries to help. He can be brought to the DC area for an approved adoptive home. Please adopt this gentle soul today. Breed Estimate: hound mix Gender: male Approximate weight:40 pounds Approximate age: 2 years Location: rural shelter The adoption fee for this dog is $275, which covers the cost of routine vet care, as well as spay/neuter surgery.
