Tonka is super adorable!!! Tonka was rescued from MCAS, a local kill shelter. He was so scared that he couldn't even walk on a leash! So,we placed him in a shopping cart and wheeled him out of there! Once, he was out of the shelter, he began walking on a leash like a big boy! Since being out of there, he has flourished. He loves kids and other dogs, both big and small. He is now neutered, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, current on his heartgard and de-flea'd. We believe him to be part Golden and part Great Pyranese (has the double dew claws).

We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes to learn how they will interact with your family. Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks or more, spayed or neutered and fully vetted before placement. NGPR will take back any dog who does not succeed in its new home. Many NGPR volunteers are members of the AKC breed club, adhere to their rescue guidelines for purebred Pyrs and apply these standards to the adoption of Pyr mixes as well.
