Mia is an energetic 3 year old, Black, female Dane with natural ears. Her story is a tragic one – narrowly missed being hit by oncoming traffic on a country road; extremely emaciated; and used as a breeding machine. Fortunately for Mia, a kind soul rescued her and brought her to RMGDRI. This gal has been through the ringer and still wags her tail. She was immediately taken to the vet for routine medical care and spay. It was discovered during the procedure that she had several mammary gland tumors and was a bleeder. It was touch and go for a while, but with her foster mom’s vigilance, she recovered from surgery and is now a happy-go-lucky Dane. Unfortunately, her tumor biopsy shows she has cancer. She will be having surgery to remove the cancerous lumps after the Holidays and it is expected that she will have a healthy, normal life span. In the meantime, she has made herself at home with her foster family and is doing magnificently. She is house trained; crate trained and knows her basic commands. She obviously had never had a gentle leader on but now accepts it and does well on her walks. She gets along with every human (big and small) and dog she meets. She has been on several play dates and is by far the most active – wanting to make get to know everyone. Tug-of-war is her favorite game. She does like to sleep on the furniture and right now it is hard to convince her that the furniture is for humans and not pets. Her only vice – she is toilet water drinker. Her foster mom says “eek”! Mia has had a hard start to life but we are confident that her remaining years will be spent living in luxury.
