Bogey is a curious 1.5 year old, Black, male Dane with natural ears. He was turned into RMGDRI by his owner after being diagnosed with Wobbler’s. Bogey’s condition is currently being managed quite well with non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs which he takes morning and night. He has been a very cooperative patient. Other than walking slightly hunched (which is getting better every day), he does not appear to be in pain and his condition is not negatively affecting his quality of life. Bogey came to us as a strictly outdoor dog so he is learning what indoor living is about including house training and going for walks. His activity is limited so walks must be done with a harness (to lessen the strain on his neck) as well as a short lead because of his strength; however, he seems to be pulling less and less every day. Bogey originally struggled with dog socialization but with the help of our behaviorist and the diligence of his foster mom, he is getting better at getting along with other four-legged companions. Bogey really loves people over anything else. He wants to be as close to his humans as possible. He does well with free roam, however, every now and then he gets an ornery streak and will chew something up that is not his to chew. He loves to make “nests” out of blankets and sleep with stuffed animals. Bogey is looking for a family that will take care of all his needs and give him all the attention and love he deserves.
Bogey's foster mom is single with no children. She works a full time job so Bogey is left during a normal work day; however, she does try to make it home at lunch to let him out. This does not happen all of the time. He initially did not get along with her older, smaller, female Dog but this issue seems to be resolved after working with our behaviorist. On the other hand, Bogey LOVES his foster mom's boyfriend's male dog and did so from the very beginning.
Bogey was recently diagnosed with heartworms. He will be receiving immediate treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
