As pretty and dainty as her namesake flower, 2-year-old Jasmine has been on the move almost all year. In February, a family saw a picture of a little Golden for sale on Craigslist—husband deployed, wife feeling overwhelmed & unable to care for a large-breed dog—and promptly collected Jasmine. But just two months after that, Jasmine’s new family wanted to get rid of her, too: “Owner says she’s destructive in yard, aggressive towards kids, too skittish,” reported our Hotline volunteer. “From our conversation, though, I can tell that Jasmine is not getting enough exercise, not socialized outside of the house, not being exposed to new things to help her overcome fear of the unfamiliar. Poor girl.” And it turns out that the “aggression” towards kids was simply excited barking when the children were playing and shouting on the swingset, and the yard destruction happened when Jasmine was left to her own devices… we all know that a bored Golden will find a project, and freshly dug ground and newly set-in plants can be just TOO tempting to resist!
At her intake evaluation, at the vet for her intake exam and now at her foster home, Jasmine is earning rave reviews. In a dog-loving, patient, and understanding environment, she is doing just fine! More updates to come, but as for that “aggressive with kids” label—Jasmine’s foster mom sent the photo below, commenting, “Attached is a picture of ‘the aggressiveness that Jasmine shows towards children.’ She has attached herself to my son.”
