Description:
PLEASE HELP US HELP ONE OF OUR OWN! Rizz is a 7 year old, 92lb pure bred German Shepherd, and an integral part of our foster program. She has helped 100's of foster dogs become well rounded, well behaved adoptable dogs, as well as helped bring the most insecure dogs out of their shells to become wonderful pets for their new families. She has played the motherly role for several young pups until they have found forever homes... Rizz is the pack leader of one of our main foster homes and now she is in dire need of help! Rizzo's passion (besides helping other dogs) is playing frisbee and ball. This has been cut short due to an injury that occurred while playing with her favorite frisbee one day. At first, the injury didn't seem to major, but she has progressively gotten more and more atrophied in her back end, as her nerve is pinched off somewhere along her lower spine. She has been seen by several vets and specialists and it has been determined, after ruling out DM and hip dysplasia through xrays and extensive blood tests, that she has a slipped or herniated disc in her lower back between her hips.... A prednisone treatment was tried, but was almost worse with side effects than it was worth, so Rizz was taken off it. At this point her only option is a costly neurosurgery... The percentage of success in doing surgery on this injury is 85-90%. The specialist she has seen thinks Rizz is in wonderful health and should recover 100% if this special neuro-surgery is done. Unfortunately, the MRI alone will cost $2000, on top of another $2500-3500 depending on what the MRI shows... We are currently asking for help from the community to help save Rizzo, and give her a second chance at being able to lead a normal life again. According to the vet, there is a lot of pain at the injury site, so the sooner this is alleviated, the better. If left untreated, Rizz would loose functionality of both hind legs and be banished to wheels for the remainder of her life... PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN! Rizz has done so much for Pet Matchmaker dogs past and present and she deserves to be able to continue her mission! If you would like to donate to help save Rizz from a life on wheels, please go to the link below to make a donation, or checks can be made out to Pet Matchmaker Rescue and mailed to Pet Matchmaker at 2703 M Street, Bakersfield, CA 93312- please memo checks with 'Rizzo'.
