Description:
Beginning on January 18th, please vote for us on The Animal Rescue Site! If we win, we could get up to $10,000 in grants to help rescue dogs! Think of how many German shepherds we could help with $10,000! It's completely free to do, and we promise you won't be bombarded with pop-up ads or have to sign up for anything. You just go to the web site by clicking this image, then go to the 'Shelter+ Challenge' tab (on the right hand side), enter our name, Hominy Valley German Shepherd Rescue, the state (NC), and submit! Every time you vote, or tell a friend to vote, you are making a huge difference for us. Please vote today, tomorrow, and every day! We only have until April 18th! You can also help feed shelter animals by clicking the purple button that says 'Click Here to Give -- It's FREE!' on their main site, so feel free to do that every day as well when you go to vote for us! Silke (pronounced 'Zilka') is a purebred German shepherd dog, and is around 2-3 years old and about 70-75 pounds. She is the absolute sweetest dog ever. She's crate trained and knows a few basic commands, but could benefit from a 'refresher course.' She responds best to positive, motivational training methods. She is an excellent watchdog from inside the yard or house, but is not at all aggressive towards people. She absolutely LOVES to be petted and loved on, and when she goes out in public, she knows no stranger. Silke is extremely vocal. She likes to 'talk', and squeals and barks with joy when we arrive home from work in the evenings and let her out of the kennel she stays in during the day. She loves being with her people! She is a little bit dominant with other dogs, so would be better off as an only pet or with a submissive male dog. We are not comfortable placing her into a home with another female dog. She is not at all aggressive, but we feel that she would be best suited for a home without very small children, because of her size and energy level. She could easily knock them over by accident. She has been around kids of 7 or 8 years and up. We are not sure if she would be okay in a home with cats. She has a lot of interest in them. Silke is eligible for registration with the Continental Kennel Club. This pet is eligible for 30-45 days of pre-paid pet health insurance and/or 30 days of pre-paid renter's insurance! This pet is microchipped with a 24PetWatch microchip, which includes free registration into the 24PetWatch pet recovery service.
