This is Basil, a 4 month old, sweeter than all get out, puppy. He was one of three abandoned puppies found starving in the woods. He is a tremendously great dog for an adopter that understands dogs and will be alpha to him. Basil has both the qualities of a Giant Schnauzer and a German Shepherd. He is loyal, loves his people, is delighted to be around people and just fine with other dogs. He is socialized with other dogs and humans alike so he is happy with all. Basil will be a large dog! So he needs lots of exercise. Long walks, runs, hikes, etc., will be necessary for this guy. Agility or other type of training will be great for him. Without enough exercise, Basil will be a handful. But with lots of exercise, he will be a charming, calm companion. Just because of his size and energy level, homes with young children will need to be a bit careful. He currently is 'Uncle Basil' to two much smaller and younger pups. He protects them, plays with them and sleeps curled up with them. Without a doubt, I have fallen for this delightful treat of a dog! At BuckHawk, he has a very large play yard and he uses it! When it's time for attention, this charmer sits right in front of me and adores his petting, scratching behind his ears, rubbing his rolly polly belly, whatever petting I want to give him. Basil is a very intelligent guy. He has learned that he gets more attention when he doesn't jump on humans. And he quickly learned that I'm not a chew toy. He learned the routine at BuckHawk quickly. He will need to be housetrained, but with his smarts, a short job! This wonderful, gentle giant will make some very lucky person a great canine companion.
