Description:
Who's a good dog? It's DUKE! When Duke was first discovered under an abandoned car, shivering and scared, long hair filthy and totally matted, with a crusty eye, bald areas from bad skin infections, anemic from worms, and with ear infections, you couldn't even tell what kind of dog he was. After he was bathed and shaved, he turned out to be a handsome Cocker Spaniel. From there it was only a matter of a few weeks on medicine, vitamins and good food to get all his infections cleared up, skin healed, booster and rabies shots given, and Duke was a new dog, handsome and with a friendly, loving personality. He has unique coloring, black and tan, and his personality has blossomed as he's discovered toys, clean soft dog beds, treats, a big yard to run loose in, other dogs to play with, and evenings spent quietly chewing toys at the feet of his foster mom in-between trips to put his head on her lap for a nice rub and a re-assuring kiss. Duke is thrilled to sleep by his foster mom's bed - no more kennels for this adorable guy who is loving his freedom as a house pet. Duke is a fun-loving 6 yr. old dog who loves to romp and play in the yard and in the house with other dogs despite the fact that he is nearly blind with cataracts. He simply scopes out his area and uses his senses to find his way around. While he does bump into things, he still plays and loves being hugged and having his stomach scratched. His poor eyesight is no reason not to adopt this loveable guy who easily adapts to new environments. Duke rarely barks and he quickly learned about housebreaking, and uses a puppy pad during long periods at night since his foster mom doesn't believe in kennels for abused dogs. So if you have a clean, fenced-in yard, a big heart, and an understanding family with patience and love for a slightly handicapped dog who is healthy and super-loving, then call Anne at 337-491-4767 or e-mail anne.c.drake@conocophillips.com. Adopters need to fill out an application from the 4Paws website, provide references and a home visit, and pay the adoption fee of $150. You'll be the lucky dog if you adopt Duke into your life.
