Oliver has broken through his cloud of darkness and is beginning to play. He looks to his humans for approval and when he receives it gives the biggest smile of happiness you could ask for. He's completely healthy now, but his eyesight is impaired, an approximate 50% loss in one and 35% in the other eye. He doesn't let this stop him at all and has even begun to do the Happy Dance.
We continue to work with Oliver with lots and lots of positive reinforcement which he is responding very well to. He is progressing by leaps and bounds now and becoming quite the confident little fellow. He will make a wonderful loving companion for that special person who can see past his eyesight and continue to teach him everything he needs to know to just be a Britt in a loving positive way.
Update: 9/15/09. Ollie is absolutely gorgeous with big copper eyes that will melt your heart, you can't help but be drawn in and want to love him up. As a 7 yr old breeder who lived life in a cage, neglected, and unschooled, he's now doing very well and learning what it's like to live a dog's life.
Oliver is looking for someone very special. Someone with a lot of patience, compassion, and love to give. Someone who understands that his eyesight is impaired a little bit. (we aren't sure to what extent at this time) After living life in his bubble, he has no real knowledge of what life is about. Oliver needs an experienced dog person, one who will commit to putting in the extra time it will take to help him realize his full potential.
Ollie is trying very hard to break out of his shell of uncertainty and confusion, making improvements almost daily. Small though they may seem to most people, things such as climbing on the couch or looking out a window are HUGE steps for Oliver. Even poking his head out from his safe spot is a BIG deal for him. We greatly celebrate every small step.
Very open to loving and being loved, but unsure how to show it, a small lick on the knee or hand is one of the greatest moments you could ask for. Knowing he's trying to show his affection makes all the hard work worth it.
Oliver can and will make a wonderful companion for someone who has the drive and dedication it takes to help him succeed by furthering his education. It's like starting from the beginning, a brand new puppy with a twist, Ollie is a much more mellow fellow. Oliver may be 7, but proves on a regular basis that old dogs CAN learn new tricks.
If you'd like to know more about Ollie and his wonderful accomplishments to date, or apply to be his special forever family, he's taking applications and reviewing them closely looking for the perfect place to call home for the holidays.
Oliver is a very handsome six to seven year old Orange & white male, from the group of rOliver recently had his spleen removed and is recovering nicely. He has some dental work to be done as well as being neutered. The vision in his right eye appears to be slightly impaired and we're trying to assess how much sight he has or what the problem might be. Based on his good progress to date, we anticipate Oliver being available for adoption at the end of the summer.escued dogs known as the PA 13. He is very sweet and non aggressive but very shy. When he first came to us, he would pace back and forth, and would not look us in the eye. We had to hand feed him and he would not come near us. Three weeks later, he knows his name and is currently learning some basic commands. He has no issues with our other dogs and has started to show some interest in playing with them! Oliver likes to hang out in his crate where he feels secure. He is making improvements every day in his socialization with people and our other Britts. He sleeps through the night without a problem in his crate.
