Description:
Best Friends of Baker ~ Forever Homes for Pets
Speckles is a handsome 3 years old, 32 pound male border collie mixed breed. He and 3 siblings were rescued from a ranch 21 months ago, where he was born and raised with very little to no human contact for his first year of life. It has taken over a year for him to become approachable in his foster home setting. He now spends hours indoors with his foster family daily and is a very loving companion who enjoys being petted and lying very near his trusted human partners. He can be very shy around introduced humans until he gains the trust in each new person, which may take some time. He does extremely well with most other dogs and cats in the house. He can challenge another larger male dog for dominance when that dog investigates his 3 sisters too closely, in a pack setting. Caution should be used when outdoors in an open setting with cats, poultry and other small animals as he learned to hunt and provide for himself when alone on the ranch. He is house broken to a dog door; therefore, he does not know how to tell you that he needs to go out. He is acclimated to living outdoors in his kennel area at night and should have a fenced yard when outdoors. He is leash trained and loves to go for walks. He is a good watch dog. Because he was not properly socialized early in life, he will do best in a home with another dog that is well socialized. He is healthy, current with shots, neutered, and he is micro chipped. He is waiting for his forever home with adults that are patient and willing to work with him.
