Arrival story: Karlee arrived in foster care on December 29th. She was pulled from a small over-crowded rural shelter, right before her time was up. Approximate age / weight: Three (3) years old and 40 pounds. Personality: So far, after just arriving in foster care on December 29th, Karlee is simply a sweetheart. We will continue to post additional information, once we further assess her personality. We do know, however, that Karlee is heartworm positive (due to no fault of her own). Karlee's previous family (before she was found as a stray and never claimed) did not keep her on heartworm preventative. This lack of preventative care, therefore, made her susceptible to the heartworm. Heartworms are not contagious to other dogs nor to humans. So, PLEASE do not let this keep you from considering making Karlee a permanent part of your family. Heartworms are treatable and she is undergoing treatment currently (all expenses being covered by Waggin' Tails, through donations). So, in just a few short weeks, Karlee will be as good as new (with no long-term residual effects) and she will soon be ready for her new forever family! Could that family be yours? Forever home: Karlee will fit into a variety of family situations quite well. She is getting along in her foster home exceptionally. She currently resides with two medium sized dogs and one small dog and has learned her place in the pack. She knows 'sit' and 'shake' and is very willing to learn even more commands. Karlee is not destructive, is crate trained, and sleeps soundly on her dog bed on the floor, right next to her foster parent's bed every night. It is believed she will thrive with an active family, due to her young age and energetic nature. Overall, she is just a perfect girl, waiting for her forever family to come along! Contact: Tammy at: turtle9462@aol.com. Pre-Adoption Application: To be considered for a dog, it is best to submit a pre-adoption application. The pre-adoption application can be downloaded from our website - http://www.waggintailsdogrescue.org/adoptionprocess.html. Just complete the application and email it back to turtle9462@aol.com. Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $175 for adult dogs. Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $100 for senior dogs (9 years +), $275 for small breed dogs and $200 for puppies plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age. Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit. We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group). Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only. Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog! Karlee is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
