Description:
2-12-10 No one has come looking for this nice boy so he went to the vet today. Unfortunately he is heartworm positive and we will start treatment ASAP. Both the disease and the costly treatment is very hard on them and so easy and cheap to prevent! Many places choose not to spend money on dogs like this, big, black and needs an expensive treatment to survive so he definitely ended up in the right place as we will do all we can for him. He will be available after his neuter and been given his treatment but he will require many weeks of little to no activity while the worms die to prevent complications. He will also HAVE to be on heartworm preventative so he never gets them again! He also has cloudiness in one eye due to an old injury but sees just fine. We are hoping he is well enough for his neuter before he starts the treatment. Boris is a very nice, very mellow boy who weighs 62# and is guessed at about 7 years old. He walks wonderful on a leash and has very good manners. Met another male rescue dog today and got along with him great. Pays no attention to dog savvy cats but i am sure he would chase them if they ran. Big, black dogs wait the longest and this one really deserves better!1-30-10 This big boy had been hanging around the town of New Providence for several days before rescue. Lab mix? Not neutered, collar but no tags. Very nice boy and well behaved. Looks to have an old injury to one eye? Will try to locate an owner and if not he will be vetted and available for adoption. We are calling him Boris.
