Hi, my name is Maxine and I am a handsome 11 year old spayed female Belgian Shepherd mix. I am happy to be at the shelter because most of my life I was a 'company dog' and lived in a fenced-in yard, rarely going inside. Therefore, I need some work with house training, but I seem to get the idea and just need some effort and patience. I am OK with cats but would like to be an only dog. (I never met a dog before coming to the shelter).I would be a good companion for an individual or family with slightly older children. I am outgoing with strangers and enjoy playing with tennis balls. I don't require a ton of exercise, a couple of long walks and some time spent chasing after toys should suffice. My fur is very thick and somewhat long so it will require frequent grooming which usually feels good to me - except the snarls and mats. I am full of love to give to someone. I am looking for a warm, loving home where I can spend my retirement years. NOTE: Maxie appears to have some weakness in her back end and will slip on hard floors. She will likely benefit from a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement and may need an NSAID (anti-inflammatory)like Rimadyl in the future. Check with your Vet.
