Sampson was rescued along with a dachshund from a home where the 2 of them lived with 6 German Shepherds. The owner's mother called the Dachshund Rescue because she was worried about the two little boys, who were being constantly attacked by the Shepherds. A wonderful volunteer from the Dachshund Rescue came to pick up the doxie and, while she was there, the mother asked her if she would take the basset too because he was still bleeding from his most recent attack. Sampson has a chunk missing from one ear and several scars on his ears, back, legs, and rump that are still healing.Despite this heartwrenching situation, Sampson still loves to play with our bassets (and bloodhound). He's a complete lovebug and will come up to you and roll over on his back to have his belly rubbed before you can pet his head. Belly rubs are his thing! He knows his name and will come as soon as you call, no matter what he is doing. He is crate trained and 90% house trained. He does pee when he gets excited, but this problem is lessening with all the love and attention that he is getting. He is not food or toy agressive and would do wonderful as a single dog or in a multi-dog home as long as the other dogs don't corner him. If he gets cornered, he will cower and not move, as if he is frozen in fear. He is not destructive and loves to play with anything that you give him, a ball, a stuffed animal or you. He is HW-, fully vaccinated, and neutered. Poor Sampson deserves a loving, safe, forever home--will you be his Delilah?
