Description:
Ruby is a 6 1/2 yr. red/chocolate liver (a very unusual color), spayed female Australian Cattle Dog. Her owner died and she was brought to rescue with another 15 yr. old ACD (being kept by the foster due to his age). She was raised with him, and apparently went to the dog park as a puppy. She seems to be threatened and afraid of other dogs, tho if they are not alpha or aggressive towards her, she seems to cope. Ruby is housebroken, good with livestock and okay with cats; has had some extraordinary obedience training in her past and with a little tune-up she would be amazing in that regard. She will do a 'down, stay' with her bowl of food in front of her until you release her to eat. Ruby is also a fetching maniac, and will fetch until she drops. She loves to go for car rides, and can be very protective of her vehicle. She is, however, very fearful of new people while in her own surroundings. She hasn't been out in public much to see if she would be less fearful in a place other than home. Ruby must have been taken out in town when younger tho, as she will walk tandem with the older dog at a heel, on or off leash. They came with a tandem leash, and the owner lived in downtown Petaluma on the Main blvd. There was a 'Beware of dog' sign on the fence, so it is possible she wasn't socialized very much as she got older. Ruby will have to have a special person to either accept her as she is, or to work her thru her fear issues. She is amazing and her foster wouldn't part with her at all, but Ruby is spending a lot of time sequestered in a kennel and this is no life for such a great girl...........it is with a lot of heartache she is being put up for adoption, but the hope is that she will be able to find a forever home that can enjoy her wonderful loving personality, her antics, her amazing capabilities and give her what she must have had before her only person in life passed away from cancer and left her to fend for herself in this big, foreign, and very scary world. Ruby is currently being fostered in Santa Rosa, Ca.
