Wow, motherhood is tiring!
As you might imagine from this photo, Emma is proving to be a really good mom. But, none of what you see would have been possible without the timely intervention of a wonderful woman named Kate from Oakland city. I don't know many people who would even consider fostering a pregnant dog, and I want to take this opportunity to thank Kate, and her family. Taking Emma in has literally saved her life, and the lives of all of her pups. The probability was very high that Emma would have been euthanized had no foster agreed to take her...no one adopts an already pregnant dog. Even if she somehow survived (and that a big 'if'!) long enough to have her puppies, they all would have contracted a deadly disease within weeks, and died. Animal Control is no place to have new born, or young puppies with an immune system not yet fully formed. Please remember that fact if you know of someone who is ready to relinquish a litter of puppies, or kittens to any animal control, or humane society. And, when you adopt one of these healthy 'chillins', please thank Kate, and, perhaps, even slip her a twenty dollar bill, or so...puppy chow is expensive, and not covered under Evansville Animal Control's 'plan'!
