Fun-loving FIV+ kitty needs a special home Precious is one of the nicest, sweetest cats around. He loves to be held, to purr away in people's arms, or to sit in any available lap. As you can see from the picture Precious will readily roll on his back to have his belly rubbed. Precious is around 8 years old and is FIV positive. FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. It is a lentivirus, meaning that it progresses very slowly, gradually affecting a cat’s immune system. It is passed through blood transfusions and through serious, penetrating bite wounds (mainly by stray, intact male cats). FIV cats usually live long and healthy lives as long as they are kept up-to-date on vaccinations and any illnesses that develop are treated aggressively. All of Whisker's cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, age appropriately vaccinated and tested for FELV/FIV prior to adoption.
