Adolescent Kittens From "Gassing" Pound
Southern Indiana Rescue Effort readily 'networks' with rescuers and rescue groups alike, using a variety of venues, in an ongoing attempt to improve an animals chance at life. So, when we read the repeated pleas for help posted on Facebook by Katia Grossman of NYC, we were horrified and compelled to act. Apparently there is a high-kill animal pound in Licking County Ohio (Heath, OH) that not only gasses their terrified cats and kittens to death, but then turns around and profits by selling the dead cats to 'research' for $1.50 a piece. It doesn't take a 'rocket scientist' to realize that this cozy arrangement lowers the Licking County Pound's motivation to adopt their poor charges out. While this situation definitely fails in the ethics department, it is apparently totally legal under existing Ohio state law. Unbelievable! At any rate, Southern Indiana Rescue Effort collaborated with Feline Fix of Evansville to meet a pre-arranged transport in Cincinnati Ohio last Sunday (1/10/2010) to save 6 of these cats. The three really young kittens went to fosters for Feline Fix, and we got two 'older' kittens...'Lilly', a sweet and gorgeous black female and 'Chance', a super- friendly and handsome yellow boy! We also rescued a splendid 2 year old black male named 'Bo' who will actually sit in your lap and put his paws around your neck to be 'loved' on! All of these gentle cats/kittens were within a few short days of being gassed...arguably one of the most cruel and terrifying ways for an animal to die. For a better understanding of how 'shelters' gas animals to death, please 'copy' and 'paste' the following link in to your search engine and watch this YouTube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp9L10A-FNg A bit of warning is in order, though...it's horribly graphic and disturbing, especially the part where they pile the puppies on the bodies of the already dead adults, and gas them too. Happily, though, none of this cruelty is in the future of any of the six animals whose lives we spared! Please help us celebrate a new beginning and life for each of these lucky animals by welcoming them into your hearts and homes by adoption! All of these beautiful cats/kittens have had their vaccines and been wormed, and 'Bo' actually came to Southern Indiana Rescue Effort totally vetted. We will be taking Lilly and Chance to their appointments at New Hope (ARC) in Henderson, Kentucky in the next several days to be spayed and neutered, and they can be adopted soon afterwards. Bo is currently recovering from a mild upper respiratory infection (the equivalent of a human cold), and will be offered for adoption soon as well. For more information on our adoption procedures, or to meet any of these fine cats, please call or text Deb at 812-430-8009 today! MEOW! Lilly and Chance is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered. TO VIEW A VIDEO, PLEASE GO TO THE FOLLOWING 'LINK' AND CLICK ON 'LILLY AND CHANCE'!
