Whiskers is known around HSSC as “Mr.Personality”. When he first joined us, he just didn’t seem to know how to interact with people who wanted to be his friend, and wouldn’t let people pet him or pay much attention to him. Over time, he has definitely come out of his shell! He has this sort of “junkyard dog” type cat face, making him look like a real tough customer. But in this case, looks can be deceiving! It’s doubtful that Whiskers will ever be a really cuddly guy, but he has more personality than you can imagine! Whiskers is one of those cats who primarily drinks water by sipping it off of his paw, like a fine vintage wine—one of his unique traits! Very cute to watch. He keeps coming out of his shell more and more all the time, and now believes that people are OK, and that being petted and fawned over is not such a bad deal at all! He loves to play and interact with toys, and is highly curious about what is going on around him. In a home, he would definitely warm up even more---we see it when he spends time interacting and playing with people in the Adoption Room. He just needs a patient and understanding forever family to help him adapt and adjust!Whiskers came to us because his owner did not feel they could afford his medical care as Whiskers was diagnosed with kidney crystals. He has been examined by our vet and does very well on a preventive diet of SO food, which will keep him from developing crystals, so that he has a long and healthy life in front of him. So, preventive care is the key to keeping the medical bills away!Whiskers has only lived indoors. He is definitely litter box trained. He has only lived with older kids. He resides with another cat at HSSC, and they get along just fine. A great guy with a great future if you are there to make sure he has a proper diet to keep him healthy. Please come by the shelter and meet our pal Whiskers.
