Abby is a lovely dilute calico. She was rescued from the streets of Framingham when she was just a few months old. She was placed in foster care initially and came to the shelter in March of 2003 when she was almost a year old. She still gets scared and acts shy around people she doesn't know. We think it may take Abby a little while to settle into all the special things that will make her a part of your family but please give her a chance to have a home with you. Abby is considered a semi-feral cat and will eat baby food off your fingers but does not like to be picked up. Semi-feral cats were either born outside or became lost or abandoned so had to learn to fend for themselves. In either case, they have not had recent, positive relationships with people and tend to be shy around strangers, loud sounds and fast movement. Here at the shelter we have worked with them to begin establishing trust again and though it is a long, slow process, our cats have each taken steps in the right direction. Adopting one of these cats will require you to provide a quiet environment with no young children and generally another cat for companionship. With time, patience and plenty of TLC, we expect these animals to find their way to a happier, more social and trusting relationship with their caregivers. Please ask about these wonderful cats. We’ll provide you with a realistic assessment of their current situation and expectation for the future.
