PEACHES IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE ADOPTION AT THIS TIME AS HE NEEDS SOME CONTINUED VET CARE - BUT IF YOUR INTERESTED PLEASE READ ABOUT HIS NEEDS & PROBLEMS. HE IS A SPECIAL CARE CAT! (^=^)~ 3/17/2010: Peaches is continuing to rehabilitate in our home & get stronger for dental surgery in a few months. He regularly walks around the house & does several laps around - several times a day. A big change from a cat who couldn't hold his head up when we brought him home. Eating great both wet and dry food. He regularly comes to us and 'asks' to be held and cuddled. He's turning into a regular lap cat now!! Sweet old man. His skin/coat remains poor but that will probably fix itself after a few months of good food. Peaches would make a great foster or cat for an all adult home. 2/23/10 UPDATE ON PEACHES PROGRESS SINCE LEAVING SHELTER: As a update to those interested, he is doing better - slow progress but progress none the same. Since coming into foster care from the shelter - he is eating really well - well both wet food and much to our surprise with his dental - dry food too. Drinking water from a bowl by himself. Brigher eyes, more active (as a skinny old man can be) - getting up and wobbly walking around the house vs when we got him he could barely hold his head up. He falls less often; has gotten a MUCH needed shave at the groomers to rid him of painful knots - sporty a smooth sleek body & tummy with fluffy mane and top of tail - looks like a mini lion. Now we can scratch and rub him all over his body and hear him purrrr. Before his new doo he would howl and bite in pain; It makes you wonder how long it's been since he's enjoyed being petted and scratched. WIth his low cut hair and lack of body fat - he's been sporting his share of sweaters and has adopted a warmed pet bed under a table for his nightime snuggness and a warm cozy bed in the sunny window for his afternoon naps === - most importantly - the windows at floor level - no jumping here! We are working with the vet - Peaches has several problems - 1) poor dental is his #1 problem. But because he is still in poor shape to go into surgery 1) age/older 2) underweight 3) initial lab work looks abnormal - may have cancer. We are working on gaining some weight and strength before proceeding on other options - he isnt a good candidate at this point for surgery or sedation. Right now He's stable and comfortable -showing some gains in many areas. He comes to myself and my husband several times a day to seek attention (or demand food) - has been cuddling more in our arms each day - geniuniely seems happy. He does OK with other cats who just plain leave him alone - he gets a bit upset if they come to close or sniff him - but has never been aggressive in any way towards any of our other cats.
