The Bearded Collie is a herding dog developed in the Scottish Highlands, and dates back to the 16th century.This wonderful, intelligent and playful herding dog makes an ideal family pet. The Bearded Collie is a natural watchdog, but has a sweet accepting disposition. They are easy to train and are obedient as well.

Grooming: 

This dog has a double coat. The topcoat is strong, coarse, long and shaggy in appearance, though free of any wooliness. The undercoat is soft, downy and close. Bearded Collies require many hours of weekly brushing to keep their coats mat free and clean. Their base color can be any shade of black or grey, as well as blue, or brown, or fawn. White markings are acceptable on the fore-face, legs, chest and the tip of their tail.

Trivia: 
The Beardie qualified for the Miscellaneous AKC Class in 1974, was accepted to the AKC Stud Book in 1976, became eligible for the Working Group in 1977, and became part of the Herding Group when it was formed in 1983. (<a href="http://www.akc.org/" target="_blank">AKC.org</a>)
