My 12-week-old pup has been diagnosed with demodectic mange. The vet said giving him a mitaban dip was best, but now I am not so sure. His skin seems pinker and more irritated after the dip. Is this normal? Should I switch to another treatment?

Dana, It is not uncommon to see this type of reaction and it will likely lessen over time if you continue to use the dips. Many times pups just outgrow the problem as their immunity builds over time. Treatment is easier and faster, however. In the recent past, a new medication called ivermectin is often used instead of the mitaban dips

(except in the following breeds in which it is contraindicated: Australian shepherds
Miniature Australian shepherds
Collies
English shepherds
Longhaired whippets
McNabs
Old English sheepdogs
Shetland sheepdogs
Silken windhounds
White German shepherd dogs

and it works better and faster with fewer complications. I hope things improve quickly for your new baby.
