My 10-year-old pincher during our morning walk will attempt to urinate about 6 times in a period of 1 hour. At first there is a normal stream with no blood.After she begins to squat and strain herself as though she need to deficate. She may emit a few droplets or none at all. Otherwise she seems to be full of energy but is hungry all the time. Normaly she eats once a day (for the last 10) I gave her Drontal and Frontline. She doesn't seem to have worms, ticks, or flees. Does she have a kidney problem or is this urinary behavior normal for her age?

 

Leah, this is not normal for any animal at any age. She is straining to urinate. This could be due to bladder stones, inflammation or infection, but it could also be due to a cancerous growth in her urinary tract. It would be important to take her to the vet and have her examined and have the urine analyzed. An ultrasound evaluation of the urinary bladder could quickly rule out stones or tumor of the bladder.
